The Randy’s story begins in 1975 in San Francisco. A group of friends, frustrated with burning their fingers while trying to pass around a joint, came up with a simple but revolutionary idea: a rolling paper with a built-in wire. This innovation eliminated the need for a roach clip, providing a simple, convenient way for smokers to enjoy their roll down to the very end. The brand was initially named InstaRoach, a name that perfectly captured the product’s function.
The InstaRoach name proved popular, but by the 1980s, rising anti-drug sentiment and campaigns like “Just Say No” created a challenging environment for the smoking industry. To navigate this political pressure, the company made a strategic decision to rebrand. They became Randy’s, but a key part of the brand’s identity—the iconic wired design and commitment to quality—remained.
Before the days of social media, we knew the best way to connect was by listening to our fans. We built a vibrant online community where enthusiasts could share stories, tips, and their love for the brand. This dedication to our customers is what has kept Randy’s at the heart of the culture for decades.
Nearly 50 years later, we’re unlocking the vault to honor our past. The Randy’s Relics collection is more than just products; it’s a testament to our enduring legacy. Each item is a piece of history, waiting for a new home and a new story. We’re proud to bring you this journey back in time.
